Sea-Shells

Really enjoyed today's service by Pastor Tan, find it super meaningful, perhaps i shall share a small part. Its a nice short short story.

Father & son were walking down the beach one fine day, the waves were washing up the shores gently and when it rolled back into the sea, gleaming sea-shells were left behind on the shores.

The sea-shells were not the kinds that were beautiful n perfect, but merely broken pieces, but to the young son, they were the most beautiful thing in the world, and he started picking them up eagerly, carefully picking them up one after the other.

Suddenly, he spotted a starfish that has been washed upshore, excitedly he shouted out.
Son: Look Dad, Look! Its a starfish! (And he dashed towards the glistening starfish lyin on the smooth white sand far ahead)

Dad: Take it Son, Go ahead. Thats a good boy.

The yound boy ran happily towards it, but as he came nearer n nearer, he stopped in his tracks, turn ard n run back.
Dad: Whats wrong? Go ahead Take the starfish, u like it don't ya, take it.

The son noddin his little head, starts runs towards the starfish again, but as he comes nearer, he stopped again in his tracks n turn ard.
Dad: Why did u not take it? its just a starfish, if you like it, take it.

And this happens for a few times, the father walks to his son n stare into his eyes which by now was wet with tears.

Dad: Son, why won't you take that starfish?

Son: I can't, my hands are full.

Story learnt, many a times in our life, we have tried to do many many things but more often than not, we have missed out the best because of the good things in our life. I like the phrase used by Pastor, Good is the enemy of the Best.

It brings me thinking, how many times have i settle myself for somethin good but miss out the best that was waiting for me. Be it work, relationship or friends/family, what u think is ur best may actually have been just good.
